What causes an athlete to fight through a difficult workout knowing that all they have to look forward to is the next workout? What causes an athlete to push their body to its limit each and every time they step on the field knowing that their only reward is another tally in the win column? What causes an athlete to endure the pain that inevitably results from both situations with seemingly nothing to gain? The answer is simple desire. The desire to win will cause an athlete to push through a grueling workout or a stressful game just to be the best. All of the top athletes have one thing in common. They all want to be the best. This desire to beat any and all challengers is what separates them from the average player of the game. This difference cannot always be seen. Through most of their lives these two groups of people look very similar. They all seem to be just ordinary people carrying out daily tasks. The difference can only be seen when they step onto the field or into the gym. Before a workout or before a game is the point where the similarity is brutally murdered. This is when the warrior inside the best athletes comes out from within. This warrior is always hungry, feeding on the prospect of the next win. This warrior is the companion that helps the hungry athlete through every workout. This warrior is the companion the pushes the hungry athlete to leave everything on the field to make sure that they come away with a win. The athlete who works hard to feed his inner warrior will be successful every time they step on the field, ready to win. The lazy athlete who allows his inner warrior to grow fat and lazy will be all alone when they step on the field, waiting to lose. This inner warrior is called motivation. Strong motivation will help an athlete rise to the top. A lack of motivation will leave an athlete at the bottom of the barrel where they belong. Motivation is the key to an unpassable door to performance. Those athletes who possess this key will be allowed to unleash their inner warrior to wreak havoc among those who are forced to wait outside the door. When the chaos is done, the motivated athlete will be the only one left standing. They will have only one thing on their mind; heading back to the gym for the next grueling workout.
